OUR ACTIVITY
Video and audio recordings
AROTIN & SERGHEI
We produced a video on Paris and Berlin based artist duo AROTIN & SERGHEI, as part of an ongoing series of artist portraits that we started in 2020.
AROTIN & SERGHEI question the predominate language of our time: the visual observation of the infinite metamorphosis of light cells, the smallest components of digital imagery. Like luminous and transcendent symphonies of light, their intermedial works of art describe both the macrocosm and the microcosm of our world, using screens as symbols and portals to infinity within constantly evolving parameters of scientific, mythological, philosophical and architectural frameworks.
Their immersive audiovisual art installation Infinite Screen has been shown in different forms and contexts at Ars Electronica, La Biennale di Venezia, Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien, Fondation Beyeler, IRCAM and Centre Pompidou Paris.
Lior Gal
We produced a video on Israeli/French artist Lior Gal in a series of artist portraits. It was created on the occasion of Gal’s solo exhibition “Lactic Transformation” in October 2022 at Tapetenwerk in Leipzig, Germany. The exhibition was dedicated to Jill Silverman van Coenegrachts (1952-2022).
“Gal is an artist of uncompromising patterns, like mystics before him, he searches out the unseen, the little known, the exceptionally lost moments and objects. They coalesce in front of him and if one believed in the forces greater than our own, I imagine these things just rise up before his eyes singing. Only seen through his camera lens, or in these most recent works, catching him from a place in the landscape they call to him, take me. Sculptures and installations take shape from these lyric flights in real time.” Jill Silverman van Coenegrachts
Joakim Eskildsen
We produced a video on Danish documentary photographer Joakim Eskildsen, as part of an ongoing series of artist portraits that we started in 2020.
Joakim Eskildsen (born 1971, Copenhagen) lives in Germany. He began taking photographs at an early age and trained as an apprentice with Rigmor Mydskov, the Royal photographer to the Danish Court, before moving to Finland to study photographic book making at the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Helsinki, where he graduated in 1998 with an MA in Photography.
In his work Eskildsen is demonstrating an innate sense for capturing an intimacy with his subjects. His ability to focus on the centre of what he feels is the essential element in a given picture, lends it a life of its own. His work has evolved around his many photographic journeys, which have been documented in monographs often depicting communities on the fringes of society.
NK Doege
We produced a video on NK Doege in a series of artist portraits. NK Doege is a visual artist who lives and works in Leipzig. NK Doege’s art is shown in international solo and group exhibitions and her oeuvre is represented by private and public collections.
Dr. Tina Simon on NK Doege: “The work of NK Doege poses a range of questions, from what the work is – considering its material properties – to what the work could be, whilst also interrogating the propriety and pertinence of form, colour and dimension to multiple sensory possibilities. (…) In place of a logical reference to the world, anti-illusionism reigns supreme, while the mental tools with which the viewer has practiced the cultural skill of dissolving or excavating meaning have no purchase here. Yet beyond their independence, with greater distance and in the second instance – should one wish – a wonderful cosmos opens up, for the brush, pigment, support, technique – the traditional elements of the genre – lead their own lives in NK Doege’s work.”
Lior Gal
We produced a video on Lior Gal in a series of artist portraits. Lior Gal is an Israeli-French photographer and visual artist (Tel Aviv, 1977) who lives and works in Brussels. Gal initially started his artistic career in photography and he has been gradually adding a new pictorial dimension through the media of collage and sculpture. In relation to this questions of time and space are to be found in the artist’s oeuvre.
Gal reworks his photos, often portraying a confrontation of two worlds which seem to oppose one another. At the same time he frees his work from the weight of materials and bestows a sense of detachment. His work has been displayed in group and solo exhibitions from Paris to Los Angeles.
Martin Werthmann
We produced a video on Martin Werthmann in a series of artist portraits. Martin Werthmann (born 1982) is a German artist, who is living and working in Berlin. He prominently devoted his body of work to the genre of woodblock printing. His monumental pieces are captivating in their radically new use of form. They behold an aesthetic that puts the vague and the diffuse centre stage, clearly depicted in his set design for last year’s performance of Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s opera “Die tote Stadt” in Theater Bremen.
The notion of space plays a significant role in his oeuvre. It is not the classical space created by perspective that is emphasized, but rather space as a sensuous experience in which human existence in all its facets finds expression. The artist sees his prints less as pictures and more as installations, which constitute a spatial immersion into which the viewer is drawn deeper and deeper.
Davide Zucco
We produced a video on Davide Zucco in a series of artist portraits. Davide Zucco (Belluno, 1981) is an artist whose output is guided by a strong connection to his surroundings. After his forming period in Venice and residing for many years in New York, Zucco now lives and works in Berlin.
At the base of his investigation is the necessity to elaborate and oppose the exasperated anthropocentrism of modernity, repurposing its industrial debris into new shapes, objects and forms that transcend their original functionality. While focusing on the use of materials and the object itself, a variety of aesthetic strategies and mediums are channeled in Zucco’s practice. Leaving a residue of geologic temporality the artist’s work disengages from an understanding of time as a linear and functional concept.
